My First Romance Novel

Have you ever read a romance novel? I have. When I was younger (in my teens) I never once picked up a romance novel at the book store. I took one look at the cover and thought...eww. I guess the man and woman on the front cover was suppose to look inviting, but I always thought they just looked old and ugly. Before I picked up my first, I thought all romance novels came in small paperback. I was so wrong.

In 2005 (or was it 2006?) I ordered my first romance novel online, though at the time, I didn't know that was what it was. My friend had recommended "Match Me If You Can" by Susan E. Philips. I didn't recognize the writer and the book was only sold in hardcover. Who knew? I didn't. The cover didn't have a man or a woman dressed in scandalous clothing. When I first started reading, I thought the book was going to be about the hot sport agent finding himself a nice lady, getting married, and living happily ever after. To my surprise, almost half way through the book, I noticed that the sexual content was describe a little too explicitly. Then it hit me. I was tricked into reading my first romance novel. I called the friend that recommended the book and she started to laugh when I asked her about her choice in books.

I do have to admit that aside from the explicit sexual content, the book was quite enjoyable. Luckily the other 90% was just like reading a really good romantic comedy. Needless to say, I bought seven other books by the same author. For some odd reason, I can't get myself to buy any other of the romance novels recommended when I click on the purchase button on Amazon.com.

You know what? I really feel like the author needs a new editor. I always find typos in her books.

so that "match me if you can" novel is actually good?

I like romance. Not the sexual ones, but the ones where the couple are so in love with each other that they'll do anything for them. So mostly they're about their lives rather than sex.

I've been reading the Twilight series and there are plenty of typos in there.

to be honest, i haven't really read thru the whole blog entry and i am kinda drunk right now. but are you reading those books targetted to horny old women who get turned on by the cover (usually featuring Fabio)? if not, please send your scolding to my guestbook and i will gladly get back to you.

once again, i am not sober so just for the record, this will not be accountable for an actual quote of mine..

i nvr liked romance novels. i usually dig sci-fi...and anything regarding vampires. but nowadays i realize vampire stories eventually turn out to be related to love anyhow. LOL...

Super straight forward and blunt. I'm the friend that tells you that you look like sh*t at the end of a long day at work (and then I help you fix your hair). I can be pretty intimidating, but everyone around me knows that I'm one of the nicest people they'll ever meet. I can talk to anyone, anywhere, on just about anything that comes to my mind at the moment. I'm a Cancer so I can get along with practically anyone. At this moment in life, I can say that the smartest decision I ever made was to study abroad in Hong Kong, where all I did was shop, eat, party, and travel for a year (but don't tell my parents that). I'm super addicted to girly books (I love Sophie Kinsella) and was recently tricked into reading my first romance novel(it's like porn on books). I truly believe that I am destined to be a photographer, food critic, or an event planner, but somehow landed in banking and finance. I'm an impulsive shopper (last year I bought a PSP and now it's just sitting on my book shelf). I have a passion for food and I love trying new restaurants. I once told a friend "if we weren't working together we would never be friends because you can't eat garlic." My friends appreciate food. For some odd reason (I still haven't figured out what) I have the shortest attention span when it comes to the guys I date. I can be staring at my cell phone when it rings, but I'll never pick it up. I'm addicted to buying Chinese DVDs. I'm allergic to lychee, but I eat it anyways. I can't stand pretentious people, I rather respect you for your b*tchy a**hole selves. I learned how to read and speak Mandarin by watching tv. I once told a Congressmen to get off my seat at a conference in capitol hill. I'm not on facebook.
