My Quarter Century Weekend

*sigh* There goes another year. Thank you everyone for the birthday wishes.
Today is my actual birthday, but the celebration started this past Saturday. A close friend of mine let me borrow her apartment to host my very own Sex & the City Birthday Marathon Bash. I had just planned on a very chilled evening with non-stop episodes of SATC, pizza, and drinks with some close friends. I got a little more than that. When I walked into the apartment, my friend's boyfriend and roommate greeted me by playing Happy Birthday on the guitar.
I took a closer look around the apartment and saw pink and purple balloons and streamers around the windows, a set of pink martini glasses (disposable) laid out in a pyramid on their fancy dining room table, and my very own SATC party basket. One friend of mine even got me three bottles of cocktail scented body wash. I'm wondering if I would smell of alcohol after using them.

Since my little birthday marathon bash wasn't suppose to start until later in the afternoon, we went out for lunch at a Japanese restaurant, followed by a trip to Target to pick up some last minute snacks and party supplies.
If you're in LA right now, you know that it felt like living in the desert this weekend. We were all so tired from the heat (walking in and out of the restaurant and then having to crawl into a car that is ten degrees hotter than it is outside) that we all went back to apartment and took a nap. I woke up around 6:30 pm when my other friends finally arrived.
I was kinda skeptical about inviting the second bunch of friends because I was afraid that it would be really awkward mixing my friends together. High school, college, exchange, new and old...sometimes they just don't want to bond. Luckily for me, they actually mingled together on their own. So there I had a very chilled and relaxed evening of SATC, pizza, pina coladas (no cosmos
), and good friends topped with chocolate cupcakes and some Jenga.
On Sunday, my cousin Jessica took me, my sister, and her brother to Tam O' Shanter in Los Feliz for champagne brunch to celebrate. I walked in and thought I stepped into an old Irish bar or something. The weird thing was this place was filled with old people. I saw grey and white hairs everywhere.
Not a young person in sight. Since this place is a part of the Lawry's chain, I expected the food to be somewhat up to par. Nope! Well at least my eggs benedict and fillet mignon wasn't. I should've ordered what Lawry's was famous for, the prime rib, but how the hell am I suppose to eat that much meat for lunch?

Later on in the evening, my mom took me and the family out for dinner at a Chinese restaurant in Monterey Park. While she was ordering, she didn't even bother to ask me what I wanted to eat and it was suppose to be my birthday dinner. You know what? All the older folks forgot about my birthday this year. My mom only remembered because she came home to find another vase with flowers in it. She asked me where it came from and I told her that my friends had them delivered to my office. Then she asked me why and I told her it was for my birthday. I was kinda hoping that everyone in my family would forget so that I didn't have to do the whole family birthday dinner at the Chinese restaurant.
Today I took the day off from work and booked myself into a spa for half a day.
The spa that I went to was great. I had a really relaxing oil massage and a somewhat painless facial. I loved that when I closed my eyes all I heard was the sound of waves. I felt like I was lying on the beach on some tropical island.
So that pretty much concludes my quarter century birthday.

I'm the friend that tells you that you look like sh*t at the end of a long day at work (and then I help you fix your hair). I can be pretty intimidating, but everyone around me knows that I'm one of the nicest people they'll ever meet. I can talk to anyone, anywhere, on just about anything that comes to my mind at the moment. I'm a Cancer so I can get along with practically anyone. At this moment in life, I can say that the smartest decision I ever made was to study abroad in Hong Kong, where all I did was shop, eat, party, and travel for a year (but don't tell my parents that). I'm super addicted to girly books (I love Sophie Kinsella) and was recently tricked into reading my first romance novel(it's like porn on books). I truly believe that I am destined to be a photographer, food critic, or an event planner, but somehow landed in banking and finance. I'm an impulsive shopper (last year I bought a PSP and now it's just sitting on my book shelf). I have a passion for food and I love trying new restaurants. I once told a friend "if we weren't working together we would never be friends because you can't eat garlic." My friends appreciate food. For some odd reason (I still haven't figured out what) I have the shortest attention span when it comes to the guys I date. I can be staring at my cell phone when it rings, but I'll never pick it up. I'm addicted to buying Chinese DVDs. I'm allergic to lychee, but I eat it anyways. I can't stand pretentious people, I rather respect you for your b*tchy a**hole selves. I learned how to read and speak Mandarin by watching tv. I once told a Congressmen to get off my seat at a conference in capitol hill. I'm not on facebook.
That's all. I think.
