Some of the crew of "Beijing Taxi" 《北京出租车》 celebrate the wrap of principal photography. Director Qiao Li holds the clapper board, while DOP Stefan Duscio holds the camera. This photo was taken after an all-night shoot in NanLuoGuXiang 南锣鼓巷, an historic and increasingly chic alleyway in Beijing. We watched dawn from the roof of a cafe we were shooting in, and you could actually see the sun come up unhindered over the hutongs, extremely rare for Beijing! Because of the constant smog, most times at dawn it's like "The Truman Show" here, a light is switched on and suddenly you're in "day-mode".
Most times NanLuoGuXiang is filled with tourists, backpackers and trendy youth. But I found that at 6am it's a whole different story. The street was bustling with people (very 老北京) 60 years and up, walking their dogs, chatting, doing excercises and eating fresh youtiao 油条. Even though I was thoroughly exhausted I was still tempted to step into one of the stalls for a bit of brekky and porridge! Just hours before it was a different story: there was a heavy techno beat on the street from a packed pub, and a scuffle broke out onto the alleyway between a group of Frenchmen. As we have Swiss on the crew they tried to break it up but I think they just inadvertantly became entangled in it! Ha, the things that happen outside pubs after 4 in the morning... I'll put up an album of production stills shortly. 我一会儿就要把一些电影的幕后照片放在网上.
