  • I'm wondering...because it seems a bit silly to me...

i was just wondering...for the about section of the profile on this web site...it asks for our blood type (if we want to put it)...i found it was a really weird question to ask...i would never want to receive blood from another country when the blood we have in Australia is some of the best and cleanest in the world...and i m not just saying that either...in America people get paid to donate blood so to me its an incentive for drugos to donate so they can get a quick buck for their next fix...its really sad, i think that to donate blood people get paid or other wise they wont do it...i know blood is a very important thing but i feel that people should donate out of the goodness of their heart not just so they can get a few easy dollars...

i am a regular blood donor here in Australia...although lately i was found to be iron deficient anaemic so i have to wait 6 months (i actually have about 2 to go now)...but if i was offered payment i would never accept it...just the thought of being able to save up to 3 lives is enough incentive for me to give my blood every 12 weeks (3 months)...it is a very fulfilling thing to do...and at milestone donations you receive a small gift...

but getting back to this site asking for our blood type...it is funny (to me anyway) that they ask us for our blood type but not whether we are Rh(D)pos or Rh(D)neg...when it is really important when asking about a blood type...if they are going to ask for a blood type why not if you are Rh(D)pos or Rh(D)neg?? seems a little strange to me...

in case you are wondering what all the Rh(D) is about...

we have lots of antigens on our red cells...antigens that determine what blood type we are and a whole host of others...if people have, for example, B+ blood they will have the Rh or D antigen on their blood so, therefore, they are B+ or how we write in blood banking B Rh(D)pos. if the person, for example, is B-, they do not have the Rh or D antigen on their blood so, therefore they are B- or B Rh(D) neg...

a B- person can give blood to a B+ person and not harm them because they do not have the Rh(D) antigen on their blood, however, this cannot work the other way around...unless you want to kill someone...

to determine blood type there is 2 antigens you can have A and B...

People with A blood have the A antigen
People with B have the B antigen
People with AB have both the A and the B
People with O have none of the A or B antigens on their blood...

if someone is given the wrong blood type the blood will clot in their arm and if not treated straight away it will kill them...

normally it is preferred to give people the blood type that they are so B+ gets B+ etc...you get the idea...

but in emergencies it is possible to get other blood types and still be ok...

AB+ is a universal receiver and O- is a universal donor...because of the antigens on the blood cells...

so, really, the way i see it, if they want the blood type why not ask for the whole thing??

How can I tell?  By what little I know of the system and correlate that with what I know of you, from the way you come across the forum and the site.  I don't know how it works but it seems to be fairly accurate most of the time, at least with my family and friends.  Some people are harder to read because they're good actors and put up a false front when they're with people, but generally it seems to work.  Hey if the Japanese people believe in it there must be something to it.  You wanna know what's hokey?  The "scientists" still can not prove that bio-electrical signals are the basis for how your nervous system operates, even though that's stated as factual in all major biology textbooks.

I'm a B+. Wonder what that tells about my personality. It's a silly question in Asia. I thought it was for health reasons, just in case you get into an accident. But if it's for some hint of your personality, that's kinda hokey. May as well give the topography of your skull. I believe Asians believe in that too.

    I'm guessing you're a type O or type B, with A being a remote possibility.

yeah i know that...i know what you were talking about i understood it...i was just saying what i thought thats all...about that its silly that you can tell a persons personality by their blood type...and thats what i think...i never once thought that you were telling me what to believe...and i didnt think whether or not that you believed in it or not...i dont care if you do or dont i was giving my opinion...i got what you were talking about...how the purpose of the blood type is for personality reasons...as i said if people want to believe it good for them i think its crap and i dont get it...i understand what you were talking about...i even read the article when i was doing my project...i totally understood what you were getting at but i was giving my opinion on it...

I was providing an answer as to why we include blood type in our about section.  Your post inferred that you thought it was related to blood donation and the importance of knowing the Rh(d), which isn't the case.  You said you thought it was silly that the site doesn't ask about the Rh(d), but in the context of why the information is being asked, there is no reason to ask for it.

I wasn't telling you what to believe, nor was I saying what beliefs I subscribed to.

Narom: i read about that when i was doing a project for blood banking...and i thought the whole idea was just plain silly...but then i think horoscopes are crap too...apparently there are also diets that affect different people based on their blood type...which i think is just the biggest load of crap...yet people believe it...i dont think the planets and stars have anything to do with how crap or good things in life are going to be for that month...life is what YOU make its not about the planets, stars, blood types etc...thats what i think anyway if people want to believe it good for them but i thinks it s just crap...

Gerl: he he it doesnt hurt at all especially when you get used to it...its just a slight pin prick like if you accidentally stab yourself with a sewing needle and then you feel nothing...because the blood just comes out...its normal flow...not like an injection where it goes against the flow...and the needle is bigger when you get blood taken...i feel that it doesnt sting as much when they put it in your arm compared to a syringe needle...but thats just me...i have never been bothered by needles at all even when i was very little...and i also watch them go in all the time...it doesnt bother me at all...but again thats just me...there is really nothing to worry about at all...once the needle is in your arm you dont even feel it anymore...its just the initial pin prick at the beginning but its not that bad...really its not...

In Asia, blood type is not about giving blood or receiving blood, but a sign of personality type.  Think of it the same way you think of a horoscope.  Certain blood types are supposed to ahve certain personality attributes so people like to know or share blood type to see what the other person's "personality" is, in the same way that people are curious about another's astrological sign to know more about their supposed "personality".  Go to wikipedia.org and do a search for "Japanese Blood Type Theory of Personality"
