    Ok in the shout box the convo got to talking about thongs...now for those of you who don't know, when I talk about thongs I am talking about these:



    Those are thongs...the rubber shoes you wear to the beach...not underwear...a 'thong' (the underwear) we - meaning Australians - call a g-string...I hope that cuts back the confusion...

    Hahaha so that's what they call them in the land of Oz....
    So now that's over and done with, can you explain to us what the word 'g' in 'g-string' means hehe :)

    I grew up calling these "thongs" .. don't know what possessed the industry to describe that underwear by the same name.. althoough, I HAVE heard of the underwear being referred to as "butt floss" ^^

    Now I grew up calling these "thongs."  It wasn't until a few years ago that the underwear thong (also what I use to call g-string) became popular enough here in the USA that I had to then call them flip-flops (I still slip and call them thongs, though...old habits are hard to break!).  

    If I'm feeling particularily playful, then I call them flip-flarps!  bah-hahahahaha....okay, not really that funny.  ;-)

    They call those shower/beach shoes thongs in the US too, Aussie... and have since way before underwear thongs came along.  They should've thought up a new name for the latter, like "string-up-tha-butt."
