  • 3 Rising dreams on Valentine

    2009-02-16 2:29PM / 標準BLOG

Been busy with work lately. Not much time to do other stuff even eat or sleep. However, on valentine's day, I attended an exhibition launch in Ampang NN gallery. This new exhibition name "rising dream" featured 3 young artist's work which is Hee Chee Way, Siund Tan and Tan Chee Hon. Each of them got their own individualistic.

Chee way's work is more on digital art & used mixed media. Majority of it is black and white series. Frankly, I personally always told him, I prefer it to be more colourful so the mas market could accept it easily. But as usual artist and designer's kinda have different objective. He stick to his believe and do what he think is the best. I quite suprise with the final outcome. Where the texture and patterns appear to be quite contemporary.

It quite nice to hang them on the wall. I gotto giv him a thumbs up for his great work!

Here is the close up of his work
    Hee Chee Way, VecteriorB6(WB6), mix media, 84cm x 95cm, 2007

    Hee Chee Way, VecteriorB1(WB1), mix media, 89cm x 91cm, 2007

    Hee Chee Way, VecteriorB3(WB3), mix media, 89cm x 91cm, 2007

Though chee way is my bf but i won't side him. I like Siund's work more. His colours usage and style is more interesting. Note: lately i am into retro colour stuff. In addition, audience get the msgs from his work. Direct and straight forward.

Siund Tan, Imaginary Friend Oil on Panel, 60cm x 46 cm, 2008

Siund Tan, Sleepless Night, Oil on Wood,61cm x 46cm, 2008

Who else is there, oil on canvas, 76cm x 76cm, 2008

Last is Tan Chee Hon. He is a nice man which is a photograph enthusiast. He said he is consider old school artist which prefer using old technique... buthen from my point of view, he is quite experimental. He is not as old school as he tot he is. Some said his oil painting is like a photograph which i do agree. I didn't realise it until someone pointed out.

His painting painted very smoothly and colour with colour merged nicely. Then made me wonder, Something too perfect will it lost it attractiveness? That's why some ancient sculpture will purposely destroy or spoilt part of their work in order to made it more mysterious looking and more thinking process going on in audience mind? 缺陷美。。。

Tan Chee Hon, In The Land mixed media on oil paper, 35.5cm x 25.5cm, 2008

Tan Chee Hon, The Burning, oil on linen,117cm x 71cm,2009

This is more innovative kinda approach. He painted another layer on the photograph that he took. I like the other piece where can see the combination of photograph and painting more.
Tan Chee Hon, Pantai Seminyak 3 Mix Media on Black and White Print, 28cm x 35cm, 2009

That's my Valentine... Then get back to work after that. Oh dry... HAHA... Ya Albert's copyrighted phrase which i gonna steal it now. Lolz...

  • Cultural Colours - Thaipusam @ Batu Caves

    2009-02-09 5:27PM / 標準BLOG

Click here to read more about story behind Thaipusam.

According to TheStar, 1.2 millions peoples are expected to visit Batu Caves and the Murugan temple this year. This is my first year attended this wonderful event and i am truely amaze with the hindu culture, their believes and their spirit. What i can see along the way is large crowds accompanied thousands of devotees carrying colourful kavadi (ornate frames), pal kodam (milk pots) and pulling chariots as acts of penance and to give thanks to Lord Murugan.

I reached about 630pm yesterday. The crowd is already starting to gather and devotees is preparing to carry the Kavadi up to the Murugan Temple. We believed the spirit of Hindu Monkey god are on this devotee at this moment, in his body. He dun speak. He will only use non-verbal to communicate with another devotees who were in the same situation. Their reaction and expression do look/felt like the monkey god which we saw from the TV-shown epic.

This is the Monkey God i reffering to. 1 of the devotees is pulling this carriot up to the temple where hook is attached to his back.

Another factor to believe that is that, when this devotee turns around, there were dozen's of oranges hung onto him using some sort of hooks. (* devotees have to be vegetarian and clean for a month in order to perform this kinda act, else he won't be able to take the pain. Some said when the god was in their body, they won't feel the pain. They won't bleed when the hook, hooked on to them)

This is the side view of the devotee.

The Monkey God giving blessing to the believer.

You can see some of the adults and children carrying something shown in the photo. This milk pot is call pal kodam. They are here to return the favor that the god made their wishes come true. They will accompany the Kavadi carrier along the way up to Murugan temple.

The cobra god is on this devotee's body and he is sitting on a a chair where nails are all facing upwards. He is there to giv blessing as well and he is smoking cigar.

This man is preparing to carry the Kavadi. The Kavadi doesn't seems as light as i tot specially when the devotees have to carry it for a long distance and some even dancing with it and turning rounds on the same spot when the drum is beaten.

This devotee's is pulling strings where too big man behind him is pulling the opposite way.

All the devotees is accompany with their family member throughout the journey. Specially those who carrying the Kavadi, he will have few person around him to make sure he get a stool to sit on when he is tired and he gets water. Some is carrying fire pot, so the family or friends will have to make sure the crowd are keeping a certain distain away from the fire.

This is how it looks like when i reaches the main entrance of Murugan Temple.

The stairscase beside the Giant Statue is the entrace to the Cave temple. Is about 200++ staircases if not mistaken and it is quite slanded.

Following the crowd to go up the temple. Stress.... worried i will lost my balance and roll down. Then everyone will strike like a bowling pin. =_="

This is the view half way from the staircase... The crowds are like tiny little ants.

This is how the cave looks like.

I saw the flag on the camera man's shoulder. I assume they are German media people interviewing the monk about this celebration.

Actually photos after i climbed up to the caves were all blur. Haha Not enough stamina and both my hands and legs were shaking...  That's my night.

My fren SK is a big photography addict who definately won't miss this great opportunity. He go every year. This year he went in the morning before the sun rise. Take a look!

  • What happen while u asleep?

Her Morning Elegance - Oren Lavie. Do you think you will experience such journey while u asleep? Wonderful isn't it? I like the scarf part! it was so nicely done and even though i stop motion but i can feel the movement then momentum in it. This is so "Alt-worthy"!

According to Cinematical, The video was shot all stills - roughly 3225 still photos for the entire video, using one camera, hanging from the ceiling for the main body of the movie.

It took 4 weeks before shooting to create an animated computer generated storyboard for the video, with 3d dummies for the characters.

It took only 2 days of shooting for the live actors on set to re-create the 3.5 minutes computer sequence, frame by frame.

Great sharing i pull from Brian Wong! Thanx Bro!
