a friend send me the above article, and it actually helped me in my thesis paper stating tht in design, things may not always has to fall on grid system as it was introduce by the famous Josef Muller Brockmann (thus, he is still one of my favorite designer of ALL time. i love his minimal approach.)

natural grid/balance can work as good as it is because our eyes see things around us falls on any natural grid the nature created. sometimes, a mess is a beauty to one eyes. i'm not kidding. now whoever is messy has an excuse of not cleaning up. he/she is just being artsy fartsy!!!
one breakthrough 'grid free' graphic artist, Stefan Sagmeister. he is really amazing. i personally like one of his idea for a business card for his brother's jeans company in Austria call Blue. it has a black type on an orange background, and a side where it's just blank white pages. the trick is, you have to look at the Blue word in black and orange background for few minutes, and then turn to look at the blank white page, you'll see the visual of the company name Blue is blue in color. i also love his Anni Kuan brochures design.
anyone interested in graphic design/creative thinking should get his book, MADE YOU LOOK. a book to keep for sure.

he really use a blade to carve those words on his body.
