summer of sam

UPDATE: (SPOILER)
man...this movie is WEIRD. pretty spike lee style. it also kinda summarize what happened around the year 1967-77 in NY. mostly about a psycho killer name Son of Sam who kill random ppl making out in their car or just random ppl walking by at the hour he wanna kill, specifically using a .44 caliber. he pleaded insanity at the court.

the story also link with the NY Yankees won tht year with Reggie Jackson, jersey #44. a black out incident, heat wave to 120º and how all these going on influence everyone's psychology around the neighborhood.

oh and it also bring in the punk culture whom adrien brody character is about, and how he was being castaway by the neighborhood for his 'change' in look/lifestyle (he work as a gay prono dancer). he was suspected to be Son of Sam, but eventually the police caught the real killer just in time.

the whole thing also involve the whole italian mafia lifestyle. mostly everyone in the neighborhood is italian, hence adrien is consider weird/crazy.

john in the other hand is a playa. he escape the killer by mere seconds when he was interrupted by another couple's car while he was cheating with his wife's (mira sorvino) cousin. he got traumatize after passing by the victims on his way back home with his wife. he work as a hair dresser at a salon, and having affair with the salon's owner. adrien is his bestest friend but with everything going on, ppl talking and influencing his judgement, he betrayed the friendship and lead adrien to the mafia family to be punish.

spike also include a little 'black vs white' comment in the movie with an interview with people in brooklyn neighborhood (his character is a on site reporter for abc 7 eyewitness news). me not surprise. hahah! very spike lee.

what i like most is that how spike lee incorporate the Yankees commenter over the TV with the killer's action. can't explain in words, but when you watch the movie, you'll know. also, i like how the movie can actually influence the viewer to be tense or disturb by the situation/news. mostly the annoying news over the TV, and style of shooting/color. great job.

need to watch it again to capture more of the hidden message or little element tht enhance the movie's story telling. and yes, stupidly, at some moment, i actually wanna 'rewind' to understand the situation again...but it was shown on cable TV. hahahahaa!!!!!!!!

and i love adrien's role, ritchie, in this movie!

had to blog this before bed. oh wait i mean after this movie by spike lee.
