The film is set in 1930s Shanghai and is about a group of brothers who move to the city from the country side in search of fortune, ultimately they are caught up in the opulent, yet violent lifestyle that that era of Shanghai's history is now famous for.
Its the first feature film for Tan, but in addition to a talented cast, he also had the support of Executive Producer John Woo, famous for some of Asian cinema's best known and most violent gangster films.
