7/10 Movie: The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008)

Just went to watch "Benjamin Button" with the roomie.

Since I've seen almost all the other movies currently playing in HK, this was pretty much the only option left. All I got from the synopsis was "Brad Pitt", "epic" and "guy is born old and gets younger".

That's basically all you need to know about the movie... except maybe instead of "epic"... "extremely long" is a better description. Its actually almost three hours, but it manages to go by relatively unnoticed.

Its directed by David Fincher, the same guy who worked with Brad Pitt on "Seven" and "Fight Club", but this film is definitely feels more inspired by "Forrest Gump" than anything else (its written by the same guy, Eric Roth)... sweeping life story spanning decades of people who find themselves in interesting times and places... with a good bit of comedy and drama thrown in too.

but instead of being an idiot savant type, Benjamin Button has this reverse aging thing going on...

If nothing else its very interesting how they did the CG to make it somewhat believable and to imagine what a life like this must be (imagine turning from an old man into a young Brad Pitt).

Definitely worth checking out! 7/10.

kerryh - for me it was the fact that he ended up in working on a boat... that similarity to Forrest Gump struck me too...

The scene in the picture where he is trying to walk really did remind me of when Forrest Gump was trying to walk in them leg brace things. Was sad to see him die as a baby in the end :( Movie was a bit too long for me though

I'm looking forward to watching Benjamin Button too... it's showing in Singapore on 5 Feb onwards... will try to catch it soon! :-)
