This is a collection of my Harajuku pictures from several of the Tokyo trips I took while I was living in Japan. I'm looking forward to uploading more of the interesting ones as sets based on their subject matter... what should I do next? Akiba Otaku? Ganguros? Big Japanese hair? Strange Japanese vending machines? Maid Cafes? Love Hotels?!? The choices are endless! :-D

it's interesting how they put sex toys, condoms, pornos next to the kid's toy section in a supermarket. didn't they think a kid could have picked up a dildo and think it's a toy?

harajuku is a neighborhood in tokyo that these weird dressing youth congregate in. there are a lot of boutiques that sell weird/fancy clothes too. its a good place to visit on any trip to Tokyo. ;-)

Lol, the title of your blog has got the Gwen Steffani Harajuku girl song, flowing through my head. What are harajuku girls anyways, are they just a bunch of chicks with a different style sense? I remembered a few years ago, everyone was carrying a white bag, that has 'HARAJUKU' written in large bold letters.

i think thats where those kids come in... they are probably the unlucky offspring of a former harajuku girl who now has to live vicariously through her children...

I think its been more than 10-15 years even... before it was goths - i'm sure they were dressing like something else. and then of course there is their neighboring rivals, the Ganguros and the Garus...

Are they still going strong? It's been going on for like 10 years now and kind of media-exposed so I'm wondering if the subculture has been taken over by poseurs like any other overexposed subculture....

yes i agree. thats one of the things i really enjoyed about living there. no matter how much i saw, there's always something new to see every day.

I don't know a lot about japanese culture or practices, but is it just me or are some of those costumes scary looking!?

Japan's culture is so dynamic, there's always something interesting to learn. =)
