Larry (the hubby) took me to this modern Indian restaurant called Babek for my birthday last week. The decor is pretty cool and contemporary, and it's located on Elgin Street by SoHo. They serve a 10-course meal with unlimited "refills"... Yes, that's TEN all-you-can-eat courses! Granted they're in small dishes, but they'll fill you up pretty well, especially since you can ask for more food.
It's an interesting concept for people to "sample" everything and then just order more of what they like... It's like eating a buffet except that the food is better and freshly cooked, the feeling is much more refined, and you don't have to get up to grab your food. Each dish is uniquely prepared and presented, and it was delicious. We were stuffed by the end of the meal. I'd definitely recommend this for any Hong Kongers out there looking for a unique modern Indian restaurant... just be sure to go with an empty stomach and stretch pants! =D
The rest of the weekend was fun as I got to hang out with friends, including my good friend from college, Sangita, who flew from Singapore just to celebrate my birthday with me. Gosh, I feel so loved!
It's funny because Sangita's a friend who I met in college at Cal (turns out we both grew up in Oakland), she moved to NY shortly after I moved there, and now has moved out to Asia two years after I moved out to HK. Sounds like she's following me, huh? :) Actually, it's more of the other way around... Every time I move to a new city/country, she comes out to visit, and I manage to convince her to move out too!
Isn't it funny how some of us end up so far from where we began (for me, that's halfway around the world) and yet we still find ourselves surrounded by some of the same people we started out knowing from so far back? I guess depending on who it is, it can go either way. For me, that's been a good thing. :)

Wow...sounds like a great restaurant! Indian dim-sum of sorts! I love the sampler idea...it should be employed in more restaurants so as to encourage people to try different dishes.
Glad you had a great birthday, fellow 4/17er! I was going to say that your friend sounds like a Stalker but it is you who is the magnet and attracts people to YOU! Is your friend part of AnD?
It's nice to still have friends that are from your old surroundings. I think that's one od the reasons I'm reluctant to move. Not sure I could cope without my childhood Best Friend.

There are actually a good amount of R&B songs out right now! Mariah's back! Her song "Bye Bye" is beautiful but also really sad. I don't know if you get limited exposure to American music in HK. Let me know if you want some recommendations hehe.
