OMG! I've been kept busy by the puppy that I started dog-sitting since Monday afternoon... that little guy has so much energy... it's wearing me out... hahaa...

but just these two days of watching him has proven to me that maybe I'm not quite ready for another dog... As some of you know... I had two dogs previously, the two shar-peis... one died in 2005 and one died in 2006... and we hesitated into getting another dog right away... b/c we just felt we weren't ready...

then my uncle helps us adopt a Chihuahua b/c my uncles and aunts think it will help keep my grandma busy when she's home... In a way it is true b/c we were used to having dogs around; the house became too quiet when there were no dogs... so my uncle adopted a chihuahua for my grandma... but actually the dog doesn't really follow my grandma... so basically my mom and I are taking care of the dog...

Pebbles

this chihuahua, we call her Pebbles, is very quiet and does nothing but sleep all day and night... she'll wake up to go pee-pee and poo-poo and eat and to walk from bed to bed... not very active... and I'll be honest, I didn't like Pebbles when we first got her... she was nothing like my previous two dogs... I feel guilty for feeling like that... but I still treat her nicely...

so since 2006 when we were "dog-less" for 3 months or so... I got used to not having to worry about feeding the dogs, walking the dogs, cleaning up after the dogs, etc... and even now, there isn't much to do for Pebbles b/c she's so UN-active...

then having this puppy around for the past days, I realized that I've lost the patience to raise a puppy... not that I don't like dogs... I still love them... but maybe just right now, I'm not quite ready for another dog yet... training them "well" is quite a task... and maybe in my mind and heart, I still miss my two dogs; the two dogs that I thought were "perfect" for the family... *sigh* maybe when the two dogs passed away, they took that part of me with them... I guess I still need more time before I am completely ready for another dog...

i know it's sad when you lose a pet (esp 2 in 2 years...)... there's a bond that cannot be explained. anyway, i hope that hunko will be able to bring back sweet memories more than past grief... =/

i do totally understand your present feeling.
we always prefer the first doggy to the second.
because the first is more important than the second in our mind.
now i ofter miss my doggy"taotao"who was died in 2002,and think he is the perfect dog in my mind.

aw, sorry about your dogs, its so said when pets we love pass away
dogs are a big commitment, which is exactly why I don't have one - I love dogs but don't have the time or energy to care for one.
you'll know when you are ready =)

Some pets take longer then we think to get over, and we forget all the hard work we had to do , and especially now you have a lot to do, I can see how you maybe changing your mind. Hunko does look very hyper!, whereas Pebbles looks quite happy to be queen:).

I thought chihuahuas were active little yippy doggies but I guess Pebbles is different. You may not be ready to have another puppy right now but you may meet a puppy who will change your mind one of these days. Like Lou said, it's about the right chemistry.

Too bad about Pebbles. I thought chihuahuas were generally hyper and loud? Maybe she's got a health condition. Sleepy all the time and so young? sounds strange.

Dogs are lots of work esp in the early days. Training and cleaning up. Ugh.

How ironic! My uncle adopted a chihuahua for my grandpa and grandma to keep them busy. My grandpa is gone now...but that dog sure is lazy. He doesn't do anything...but I guess this is good for my grandma since she's not as active as she use to be.

we used to have dogs in our home too but we stopped having them after my brother was bit by my dog chikitita...a funny name huh? i miss her. she was so cute...i hope you'll get to cope up with the stresses and struggles your dog gives you...fyi, he's cute..=)

Have you found your once-in-a-lifetime friend? be sure to not lose that friend. My once-in-a-lifetime friend is my mom. She's totally awesome because she's more like a sister/friend to me. We are really close and I love her so much!!
