Growing up, most of my friends were into rally cars and I would spend time after school picking out new colours for their 'babies', waiting while they got newer, bigger, louder exhaust pipes fit in and whatever other custom fittings they had in mind.

One day...

At some point, I even studied for my A-levels at the mechanic's workshop while my friends tried to explain to me the workings of a twin-turbo engine. They failed miserably. While my car-education didn't go very far, it didn't stop me from loving the thrill of the ride and the aesthetics of a beautiful piece of machinery. Of course, every once in a while, I got to drive. But after banging up the a Skyline and almost tearing off the side-mirrors from a WRX, my friends have banned me from driving their cars, so now, I'm only allowed to sit and watch.

(Disclaimer: I CAN drive...just not cars with difficult clutches.)

Gumball 3000 Rally 2006 in London

You can imagine how excited I am about being invited to the Gumball 3000 Rally parties happening in Beijing this weekend. Maybe I'll be able to convince one of the participants to let me drive? Time to brush up on my car-education. If I can talk the talk, maybe they'll let me walk the walk.

P/S Did I mention that Tyson Beckford, the man I idolised as a teen, will be there?

cool...but i have all the cars ....lol....yeah in my game nfs10 . i think it's instructive for ur car-education .by the way ,enjoy ur visit (car & idol)...wow....

wow that sounds like a buncha fun.... but even if you dont end up walking the walk im sure the experience would be a blast! think of all the things you will see =]

and hmm maybe you should getinto motorycycles? they are much more simple... and way sexy on a lady ;D

Sounds like fun! Even if you don't get to drive. Or would it totally suck if you didn't get to drive? Anyways, being able to be in the same room as your idol should make it worthwhile.

Michele Lean is a television host for CCTV International, the English channel on the CCTV network. She divides her time between three programs, Travelogue, Center Stage and Culture Express.

Born in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and raised in Hong Kong and Melbourne, Australia, she started her career as a commercial talent, model and actor in Melbourne, while juggling her studies in Media and Communications at the University of Melbourne.

She has interned for CNN (Hong Kong), The Herald Sun (Australia), TBWA-ISC (Malaysia) and The Sun newspaper (Malaysia), amongst others. While she initially dreamt of being a writer and news anchor, it was her passion for performing that won out and lead her to the TV screens. Michele's nomadic nature drew her to China, a place she expected nothing from and in return gained so much from, both personally and professionally.

Michele is not an in-borne performer and at most times prefers to observe than command attention but it is her love for the art of performance that drives her out of her shell and into the spotlight. Like most actors, she is an extrovert and introvert and while she likes her privacy, she finds her place is on a film set and TV studio.

In October 2008, she will take time off to further her acting skills at the New York Film Academy and looks forward to gracing the silver and TV screens in the near future.
