    Some People…

Over the weekend, we went to Costco. It was pretty crowded as everyone including us were using their coupon books. All was well, we got all our stuff and then checked out. After we paid, I was trying to pull the cart out of the line and walk towards the exit. But we were a bit jammed up. Right in front of us was a “guy” who saw me wanting to leave but he was in our way and made no attempts to give us some room. So, he was on the outside (blocking others behind him) waiting for something (I’m guessing he was waiting for his pizza), AC was holding our son, with our daughter standing near her, I'm trying to maneuver out, but just could clear. I tried to pull the cart out, but clanged with another cart to avoid hitting him, I got frustrated, and here's how it went down:

I said out loud "Why don't you just move over?"

The guy replied, "Where am I going to go?"

Me: Move over there! (pointing to this empty area 5' to his right) You're blocking others behind you."

Him: Everyone is waiting over here, A$$hole!

Me (as I'm walking away): Oh, that's really smart, You're such a tough guy! You scare me!

AC to the guy: You didn't need to go there! Now, you just showed everyone what you really are!

So, that really pissed me off...in my mind (and possibly in my younger years) I'd just fire into him...but over the years, I've mellowed out for many reasons. ALSO...I had my kids with me and what kind of example/lesson would they learn, if I had not walked away from it. So, I just kept walking to the door and tried to change the subject as our daughter asked over and over about what was going on.

I think the best part is that we walked away, not using that kind of language that he used. He's stuck standing there with all these people (the place was packed) staring at him for yelling at a family with little kids. Our daughter asked what was going on. We told her that he was a bad man and we didn't want to be near bad people.

I'd admit, that the "walking away" feeling is difficult to stew on, but overall, I feel that we win when that happens. I try not to let my emotions get in the way when situations arise. I've been asked before on why I don't "retaliate"...honestly, I just don't think it's worth it and don't like to escalate conflicts. I mean, what does "retaliation" proves...other than satifying one's ego. However, don't get me wrong...push me hard enough and I will bite...and bite hard. I will never physically attack anyone ever...however I have been attacked before...but that's another story. ;)

It's just not worth it to degrade yourself to the level of people like this.  When you have your kids with you it's probably best to walk away though.

    haha. rottendoubt.
Let the pretty woman ask someone to move. Maybe they'd get a gentler reply or response.

Gotta know when to pick your battles. Most battles aren't worth it. I'd be upset if someone used profanity in front of my girls. And over something that's just plain common courtesy! Fewer and fewer people have that anymore.

Yeah in those situations it's very hard not to retaliate, I think the better man won, the rest of the people would of seen that idiot swearing and out-classed, and meanwhile your daughter gets to learn from you  how best to react to some people, without the aide of violence.
