  • Doctor's Appointment

Why is it that every time I have to go see a doctor, it is such a pain to book an appointment? When I have a really bad cold and I want to go see a doctor I don't think I should have to wait 3 weeks. I'm having a little bit allergic reaction to something, I don't know what, and I wanted to see a specialist. I spent two hours on the phone this morning trying to make an appointment and everyone told me that the doctor would not be able to see me for two weeks. Two weeks passes by and my little allergic reaction could've cleared up, but I would still want to know what it was I was allergic to so that in the future I can avoid it. Luckily after being on the phone for what seemed like forever, I was able to get an appointment with a primary physician. So hopefully now my prescrīption would clear up my little allergy problem.

yah, it's ridiculous going when you don't need one anymore - kinda defeats the point.

yea it really does suck.... my mom had that problem... the first time around, they just talked to her over the phone and prescribed her some meds ($80 worth) and it didn't work, so she called again and got an appt. a week later and they prescribed her another set of meds ($50 worth) and it worked better but she's still coughing... =(  what a rip-off...

Your primary-care facility doesn't offer urgent care? Your insurance must cover urgent care visits at most offices. Try them next time.

That's ridiculous.  Our health care system is ridiculous.  And people complain about the "socialist" health care systems.  I wonder if any of our friends in Canada have the same problems?

But I'm glad to hear you took charge and found someone to treat you....which is really the last thing you want to do when you're feeling sick.

The key is to go to a fairly large practice for your primary care because you can usually book a same day or next day appt. and get seen by a physician's assistant.  They are usually supervised by a doctor anyway.  If you need to see a specialist, you can have them try to get you in.  You have to work the system unfortunately.
