Should I Be Actively Searching For My Significant Other?

Last night I attended a friend's birthday dinner. There were seven couples, including my friend and her bf, and two single gals, me and my friend's roommate. Three out of the seven couples were going to get married within the next 12 months and two other couples are planning to get married as soon as they are "financially stable." These people are all no more than one or two years older than me. All through dinner I was thinking...should I be actively searching for a boyfriend? Where would I find a guy anyways? Am I behind in this whole relationship business? I don't think so. So I haven't been on a date since I moved back from SF in the beginning of last year. That's not a big deal right? Maybe I'm just not very "modern" in the whole dating thing. There isn't a guy that I am currently interested in, but even if there was, I'm just not the proactive type. I don't have it in me. I liked to be be asked on dates, I don't want to be the one doing the asking. Also, even if I was in a steady relationship, I don't think I would be ready for marriage within the next couple of years anyways. I like being able to have my own space and block everyone out when I need to. I like having my bed all to myself. When I get married, there has to be a monstrous king size bed. Argh...okay I just had to get that out of my system.

Anyways, last night my friend had her birthday dinner at a Japanese restaurant in the OC called Shin Sen-Gumi. It was very loud at the restaurant because every time someone walks into or leaves the restaurant the hostess would be shout something in Japanese. Every time we ordered anything grilled, the chefs would be shouting. Of course after the restaurant staff sang happy birthday they started shouting out stuff too. I have no idea what they were shouting about, but it was fun.

aww...it's ok...i know that feeling...i get that when i go out dinner with my friends, and i start to wonder too...therefore i try to hang out more with my single buddies the next day! but Gary down there is just too mean! just hang in there Ren, good things will come~

Etchy got it right :) At least you're secure enough in yourself that you're okay with being alone now until the right guy comes along. I'm old fashioned about asking guys out too but you definitely need to express interest when the time comes.

i'm same as u... i'd never ask a guy out, because i believe that all girls are princesses and deserve pampering and service by guys!
However, it not good to just sit and wait though... lemme tell u my philosophy:
Think of it like fishing. Use a good bate on the hook and let the fish come to you. Once caught, it is up to you if you want to eat or dump the fish.
The good bate should be something attractive abt yourself that you can emphasize to guys you like, and keep hinting!!

What a great comment Etchy! I'm going to remember that "Better to wait for Mr. Right than to settle for Mr. Right Now." Good one. And you'll know when you're interested. But honey, guys are dumb. You've got to communicate your interest. Don't just rely on fate or else it might take fate a few lifetimes to put the two of you together. Practice your come hither glances with a close friend. I've got mine down pat, but I carry it like a concealed weapon. I don't want to flash it around, haha.

Super straight forward and blunt. I'm the friend that tells you that you look like sh*t at the end of a long day at work (and then I help you fix your hair). I can be pretty intimidating, but everyone around me knows that I'm one of the nicest people they'll ever meet. I can talk to anyone, anywhere, on just about anything that comes to my mind at the moment. I'm a Cancer so I can get along with practically anyone. At this moment in life, I can say that the smartest decision I ever made was to study abroad in Hong Kong, where all I did was shop, eat, party, and travel for a year (but don't tell my parents that). I'm super addicted to girly books (I love Sophie Kinsella) and was recently tricked into reading my first romance novel(it's like porn on books). I truly believe that I am destined to be a photographer, food critic, or an event planner, but somehow landed in banking and finance. I'm an impulsive shopper (last year I bought a PSP and now it's just sitting on my book shelf). I have a passion for food and I love trying new restaurants. I once told a friend "if we weren't working together we would never be friends because you can't eat garlic." My friends appreciate food. For some odd reason (I still haven't figured out what) I have the shortest attention span when it comes to the guys I date. I can be staring at my cell phone when it rings, but I'll never pick it up. I'm addicted to buying Chinese DVDs. I'm allergic to lychee, but I eat it anyways. I can't stand pretentious people, I rather respect you for your b*tchy a**hole selves. I learned how to read and speak Mandarin by watching tv. I once told a Congressmen to get off my seat at a conference in capitol hill. I'm not on facebook.
