• New Year, New 炒作

  Am back in China after two weeks of rest in Australia. Even got a chance to go swimming at the local beach just before heading to the airport for my flight back here. Talk about contrast, it was 37 degrees Celcius when I left Melbourne, and -5 degrees when I landed in Beijing! That's a difference of... 42 degrees - sheesh.

  Trust everyone had a good and safe New Years! I skipped the fireworks this year for simple drinks in an old rustic gold rush town. It was so quiet you would have thought the town was deserted. Maybe a car would drive by every 30 minutes but that was it. A nice change.

  Ever since China re-approved the use of fireworks, nothing beats the do-it-yourself fireworks extravaganza up here at Chinese New Years. Last year I could barely sleep for a week it was so noisy at all hours. I even saw one of my neighbours, across the road, light his fireworks INSIDE his house! That was rather surreal - and colourful. He basically emptied his livingroom room of furniture then lit the fireworks from the centre of the room. Weird, extremely dangerous, and yet strangely Chaplin-esque when I was watching "without sound" from across the road.
