I'm usually hesitant to do shameless promotion, but this is a film I and the producer have slugged away at since 2003, so thought I'd mention the news. "Shanghai Bride" 《上海新娘》 landed the front page of the Shanghai Star newspaper recently, which was cool, and I just found out on the weekend that it has been purchased for broadcast in Iceland of all places! Iceland has a population of 300,000 give or take, and yet they have three TV stations; that's one station for every hundred thousand people! If Beijing had that ratio we'd have... 150 stations for the city alone! This is the eighth TV sale after Taiwan, Korea, Finland, Sweden, Israel, New Zealand, and the Australia Network. I can try to get my hands on screening times if anyone has pals in Iceland! In the meantime, we are all trying to juggle our schedules to fit in a screening and Q&A down in Shanghai shortly. If anyone's going to the Sichuan TV Festival (四川电视节) at the end of the month the film will be on there too.

In a nutshell it's about how a guy with a good heart but little financial prospects struggles to find a wife in Shanghai's ever-more materialistic dating scene. Just how much does the wallet influence who you choose? I'll try to put a clip online soon.

His 2nd year student short film "Crash Test" was awarded 2nd prize for film at the Melbourne Fringe Festival in 2000. In addition to acting for film and TV in China, Sam now focuses on directing sino-centric films for the international market.
