    These are the charms I got on New Year's day in Tokyo, when I visited shrines.



    The black one is called "Must Win," apparently, and will allow me to have great, sweeping victories at mahjong.

    Which I will need during CNY, my traditional mahjong marathon week.

    The pink one will supposedly ensure the discovery of my true love, or whatever version of that you get for Y600.

    The last time I struck a bargain like that, she only tolerated me for half an hour, and said that if I wanted to stay longer it would cost more...

    I'm still single, but maybe it only works on Japanese women.

    Maybe the amulet needs to be made by Gucci or Prada to work on Hong Kong women.

    Then again, maybe it is working. I got an email in Japanese today.

    The third one I've gotten from this particular person.

    A woman, even.






    We had dinner once.

    I hope Google translator does a better job with Japanese than it does with Chinese. :-)

    Whatever the outcome with unnamed bodaciously exciting Japanese babe, I think it will have you give off an intriguing vibe.  Okay, HK ladies, your job is to seek out the source of this intriguing vibe, flirt with him and, if all works out, go out with him and see how much fun the two of you can have together.  

    We will see if my magical powers will work in the arena of human relationships.  A few weeks ago I printed up an announcement for a meeting at work and put a snow picture on it.  Damned if it didn't snow the day before said meeting, which, by the way, was cancelled.  I would like to claim credit for this meteorological event.  Fat chance!
