so, my weekend ended with a trip to NY Art Book Fair in Chelsea. thanks to my Korean friend/teacher, Uni (gonna share her music soon...be sure to check it out!!). she told me bout this book fair organize by Printed Matters the past weekend when she was teaching me Korean. it's the second annual book fair held, with contemporary art books, art catalogues, artist's books, art periodicals, and 'zines for say by over 120 international publishers, booksellers, and antiquarian dealers.
it's my first experience...and I LEFT WITH 'WOW' for my brian and eye sight!!!!!
i'm mostly attracted to artist's books. i'm not going into the poetry mode person yet (maybe soon...), so i skip all tht. but being a paper, color, image and typography lover, just by looking around makes me hard to choose my focus point!!!!!! LOL!!!!
the section tht captures my attention the most was the W section known as Friendly Fire. it's a zone of publishers and distributors of experimental publications and other media, curated by Max Schumann. the sone features a diverse group of artists, collectives and activists representing a range of generations, styles, and concerns, but who share similar interests and strategies in the production and distribution of independent forms of cultural and political expression.

first to mention is Islands Fold, visit the site here to find out more bout them. basically it's a independent publisher and artist residency created by Angela Conley and Luke Ramsey. one of the work tht caputre my attention is this by Marco Zamora and Luke Ramsey. the pulication is title Soul Searching.
lots more interesting artist's limited pieces to view at their site. i love the strokes...the organic, overlapping, pattern like–illustration. *stare* i wanna learn to draw like tht...besides my computer oriented graphic skills. i need to re-visit crafts, hand made, tracing type of 'labor work'. hahaha!!! *laugh*

next stop is Lovely Daze published by Charwei Tsai. again, it's a collection of artists' writings and artworks published twice a year in limited editions. this piece of 11" x 17" limited edition poster tht's included in the first issue had me focus on it for 'a while'. hahaha!!!
the above is drawn by Christina Rodiguez. look at the massive craziness going on in the piece...*awe* the art of organic maximalism. haha!!! i can't believe i just made tht up. *shrug*

coming right up is a both i forget the name. but i believe is Cinder Gallery. i love the use of strokes in a little book about a girl's deciding to cut her hair (or something like tht...but i'm sure it's about hair...). here is one page. but be sure to check out their site for more.--
alright..now down to some 'freebies' i conquer!!! hahaha!!!! i love them!!!!!! i couldn't any of those artists's publication cause i'm really tight in money now...*sigh* *panic* (but calm down to finish this blog. hahah!). but i do glad to get these!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

my friend told me it's a very famous/good publishing house. stuff sold on this booth are EXPENSIVE and VERY LIMITED. *gasp*

BUT!!! i did find a treasure in the antiquarian section. only cost $5. i love digging through things and find 'the one'. tht makes me treasure the book...m-o-r-e. hahaha!!! *shrug*
Abstracts Book III by Jane Logemann
the abstract art is expression of various environmental/nature 'microscopic' view with explanation of the pattern at the left hand side of the book. very interesting book indeed. i love the little delicate strokes drawn to create different pattern, randomly (my favorite 'activity'. haha!!)

remember my friend's artist friend, Seong Eun Hong? the technique i mentioned in the entry before this has the same stroke use by Jane Logemann in the above piece. but note this, Seong Eun Hong draw it on like a 3 feet large paper...*dang* not filling the whole paper with strokes of course...but i still am impress. *awe*
