for those of you living in the western hemisphere,  i am talking about THE FUTURE...

the olympics opening ceremony is now over on this side of the world... i just got home a few minutes ago, i watched it at Eddie's place after work.

I was running late, but i still stopped at Central station to snap a picture!

a crowd was forming... people snapping pictures...

oh snap! 30 minutes to go!

I tried to snap a more meaningful time than 30:14... BUT...

this stupid BIZNATCH had to go and pose in front of the clock... so selfish... :-P

anyway,  the opening ceremonies are pretty impressive on a technical and human logistics point of view.    the march of the countries was WAAAAY too long though.  :-P

there is a performance by many singers after the torch is lit,  but they cut it off on the TVB Pearl (english) broadcast.  the regular TVB broadcast showed some of Jackie singing before switching to their talking heads... i also saw Vincent hosting on ATV.  it was cool. ;-)

here's a picture i took during the finale... LOTS of fireworks..

to my tape delayed friends in America - do you want me to tell you who lights the flame?
    :-P

(don't worry, its not Jet... )

PS - if you don't mind spoilers, go look at Scottie's blog, he has tons of frame grabs...

yep the opening was quite special but the athletes march is always too long, and I believe it's my own country who first brought that aspect in...sorry :(.  I was waiting for the singers, and BBC cut it off, went to the commentators that never shut their mouth' long enough for us to hear anything going on.

justkelly - trust me i know!  i have complained about their coverage for decades... :-P

the other thing they do is that they always use those cheesy prepared background stories about how someone's mother has cancer and they had to train in a shack in the woods...  they always distort the foreign guys... in the case of the chinese, they used to (probably still do) make some stuff up about how they're like modern samurais fighting for the honor of their country...

Thaks for the cool pics Etchy!  :)
What really sucks about being in America, is that NBC has sole coverage of the olympics.  They always show the events in which Americans are favored to win, and this causes us to miss many events because of it.  Also, the other major networks, upset over NBC sole coverage,  report it as it happens, so we already know the outcome before we see the event.  Its almost like reading the last chapter first of a new book.

The commentary was kinda funny...kinda clueless what was going on and who was who.  I was ashamed to find myself not knowing several countries even existed!

whole thing is more than 3.5 hours... maybe 4...

there's a lot that can be cut... the countries take up a good 2+ hours of that...  lots of random south pacific islands, etc.

How long is the procession of athletes?  How long did the whole thing take?  OMG, add time for commercials here in the US and I might as well sleep over my mom's.

Woo hoo, let the games begin.

P.S Jet said in a recent interview that he'd be at the Opening Ceremonies so maybe NBC will show a clip of him.
