I enjoyed your Friday post on The Daniel's blog. So true, Hollywood is not based on morality, fairness or any of those other things we are supposed to learn as children. It is a f-king business, and the law of the jungle applies (unless it has been regulated against AND those regulations are actually enforced).
I also like your point that Speed Racer and Dragonball are such bad movies, better that Asian actors not be involved. Chow Yun Fat missed his chance when he pissed off John Woo and got canned from Red Cliff (I know the "official version" doesn't play like this, but there was an awful lot of saving face going on shortly after this incident, so I tend to believe Woo lost it when Fat Gor proposed something idiotic and the two exchanged words, and well...that was that). So, Chow is reduced to playing hack characters that should embarrass him. Does he care--not so long as he makes more off of one hack Hollywood movie than he'd make working in Asia for 3 or 4 years (and making about 6 movies). As you say, its all a biz.
Actually, hush hush, I suspect Daniel wants to break into Hwood because he sees the end of the road in Hong Kong and would like to work less and make more money while he can. Also, his language skills (Canto and Mandarin) can't compete with native-born Asian actors. A tough situation to be in where you one of HK's A-list actors at the peak of your popularity and the only direction from here on out is down.
Hey, James. We may not agree on every point, but I'd like to thank you for having a respectful dialogue. You have a lot of good ideas. I am a Christian as well, a freelancer, a teacher, an aspiring screenwriter, and fellow Official Artist here on AnD. Best wishes for your cartooning endeavors.
You know what, after reading the "Golden Dreams" comic book, I thought it was hilarious and I gave it to my mother. Since then, she keeps calling me "Soi Jai" from time to time, lol.
Hey James!
I now know why I remember you. I think I bought your comic book "Golden Dreams" (is it?) after I found out about it through yourself on AsianDVDGuide forums. Over there I am thelostdragon.
