so actually the lady who wanted a website done changed the appointment to today... just got home not too long ago...

it wasn't too bad; the meeting was short (and I got a free lunch and a ride in a yellow Porsche Boxster) but I am so happy that the lady actually provided me with lots of information and pictures too!!!~ Thank goodness... cause a project can be tough when I am provided no information... but the tough part? when money gets into the picture... yep... briefly discussed my rates... and I told her I'll write up a proposal for her with more specifics. But right away she said, "Give me a good deal!"

uhm... so what is a good deal when it comes to design services? or even at a shopping sale? a good deal is different in many cases and everyone has a different standard as to what is considered a good deal and what is not... oh dear, it's a tough one...

I'd give her the usual rates, but give her a little incentive for being a new client so she feels like she's getting extra. (similar to what Peachey suggested).

Are you asking us to give you a rate or what you should do with relation to your usual rate? Just give her the usual rate. If she doesn't like it, she's welcome to go find someone more expensive ... lol.

lc and peachey give good tips. It seems a bit cheeky of her to ask you to give her a big deal when this is her first time , i could understand if she was a returning customer, but if it's a big order then a small discount will surely suffice.

jeeez discounts...I'd understand if she's a returning client, that gives u business all the time...but if not then you must stand u're ground but give her good reasons for u're rates

Oh Gawd. Just give her your usual rate and insist it's like xx% off your usual rate bc she's a new client. Or give her a tiny break. Or instead of reducing your rate, do one part of the project gratis (or reduced) - like the easiest part. Something like that. ;D
