Nose

What an exhausting week. We've been busy the last couple of weeks dealing with a few things. The most important was with our son. At 2, he's been through a lot, the most recent was dealing with his nosebleeds. We've had to cauterize both sides within the year, but most recently, we had to bring him in for endoscopic surgery for laser cauterization. Why so drastic for this procedure? Well, when he bleeds, it's like a bad leaky faucet. We'd check on him during the middle of the night and his face and sheets would be covered in blood. So, last week, we had to get up at 4:30am for a 7am surgery. All went well and he was a trooper.

So, this week, he had a post-op...all is well. But, later that day, on my way home from work, the wife calls me and is hysterical on the phone. She tells me that our son just stuck a foam sticker up his nose...yup, same one that was just repaired. Off to the ER we go, in at 730pm...out at 1130pm...and nobody has had dinner, sister included. The ER doc was practically useless, the wife was frustrated with him as he seem to be nervous in what he had to do. First he had the wife plug a nostril and blow into his mouth...result, son puked all over the place. Bad procedure as this would have worked only if the nostril was completely plugged, but it wasn't. Then came the forceps, he pulls it out??? Nope, he pulls the scab of the surgery...now he's bleeding again...OH GREAT! ER doc suggests that he needs to go see the ENT specialist...DUH!?!?! So, next day, we're back at the ENT and she had to scope deep in...but she finds nothing...he probably swallowed it. Good news it that the scab removal didn't seem to do too much damage. So far, he's doing well. (crossing our fingers) Anyway, it was frustrating that if the ER doc was hesitant and a bit nervous in dealing with him, he should have let someone else help. As we always trust docs in believing they know what is best, we forget or sometime hesitate to voice our concerns. Next time (hopefully there won't be a next time), we'll be more vocal.
