What are the first things you do when you return home from a trip?
I like order. The first thing I must do is get the dirty laundry into the washer. The moment I step into the house, the luggage is opened and the soiled items are pulled out and tossed into the waiting washing machine. It seems I'm always in a mad rush to do it, too.
Then the unloading of the rest of the luggage is continued downstairs on the floor. Everything that belongs downstairs is sorta dispatched to where they need to be properly put away. When that's completed, the suitcase, along with the upstairs items, is hauled upstairs and everything else is put away.
Sometimes after returning from a trip, I feel the house needs some cleaning. It's as if I perceive a whole half-inch layer of dust accumulated while I was away, even just for a few days. This last time, I vacuumed, dusted and scrubbed all the toilets on both floors before departing.
I like the way my house smells whenever I return from a trip (and when nobody's been home during the time I was away). It has a new house smell; like fresh wood of a newly-built home. I certainly prefer this smell over any man-made odors like kitchen grease or even those carpet or room fresheners.
