10,000 and 41

Thanks to everyone who found my spleen-venting rants entertaining enough that I now have over 10,000 visits. I have made friends and found a much-needed space for letting off this chronic steam. I have met, literally and figuratively, lots of people with whom I feel I can communicate and who share similar interests. So thank you again, because I need that.

I'm hiding in my flat, working on this research and scrupulously attempting to not go outside. It's listed as 33 degrees outside, but it also 'feels like' 41. For Americans, that's 91 and 106, respectively.

Good thing the high today is only 30/86, but why bring that up?

I wonder what the characters are for Yuk Fu, Ha Yu?

Yes, it is obscenely hot today. You instinctively try to move away from the sunlight, but unless you're in shadow, you're done for. It's the kind of hot that weighs on you, like sun-block lotion made from lead.

Because its also so polluted out there that you can see the haze within 100 yards. Yummy!

The humidity is only 66%, but that doesn't mean I want to go outside. That would be stupid.

But I will go, at 12:30, to walk to Rick's chiropractic clinic and meet him so we can go to the gym and he can abuse me.

That means I am progressing in my dedication to exercise; while I don't look forward to going out there, I will do it. It's the smart thing to do, because heat and smog notwithstanding, by going to exercise, I am doing something good for myself.

Considering how long I spent in college, you'd think that would be second nature. But I can be a slow learner.

Sometimes, though, I show signs of progress. After all, I'm an educated man.

I have a decent vocabulary and a social and professional responsibility not to say things like "It's so hot out that when I walk to the train station I will sweat my b@lls off."

That would be crude, immature and unnecessary, so I won't say it.

I will say that when I walk to the train station, I will donate my testicles to meteorology.
