A Rare Stab of Sympathy

I am rarely described as a sympathetic person.

Probably because I rarely am.

Usually, my instinct for sympathy only covers kids with cancer and abused animals.

But I find myself really feeling bad for this person:

Her name is Lu Jing Jing, and she was Miss Asia 2004.

Unfortunately for her, this and other photos are used in that email you might get about her being the winner of Thailand's Miss Transvestite contest.

Leaving aside the obvious ignorance of using a Chinese woman  to represent a Thai (male or female), there is something especially unfortunate to me in some poor woman being used as part of a joke email about trannies.

Especially since the f@#$ing idiot that wrote it has no concept of the difference between transvestites and transsexuals; one likes to wear women's clothes with the idea of convincing people he's a woman. The other wants to be a woman.

Other than wanting to be Miss Asia, this poor young woman did nothing that would make her even remotely deserving of this fate. I'm not downing pageants, I'm just saying that she did seek the spotlight and did, at least hypothetically, want her photo to be taken and distributed. Hence, she entered into the risk pool.

But that doesn't mean she should be used as a joke about trannies.

Oh, wait, 'tranny' offends people. I meant Chicks with D*cks.

I just hope it hasn't caused her many problems. It's somehow very wrong to me. I've been rumored to be dead before, and that was no fun, but that was just in my own hometown. This poor girl is stuck with this stupid email for years.

I may be a chauvinist, but I think that it is worse for a woman than a man.

If a guy gets accused of looking like a girl, it's his own fault. Hell, they could have used the picture of any number of male pop stars (or just males) and gotten the same effect. And the guy would deserve it.

Feel offended? Take some of that swish out of your walk, stop carrying your girlfriend's purse for her (or your own), and quit crying all the godd@mn time...

I mean, if you got an email with pictures of me (without beard), saying I was Miss Personality 2003 in the UK (okay, with beard), I'd feel stupid, but it's not as though I'd have to work too hard to convince people it's untrue.

I mean, I have no f@#$ing personality...
