alright. promise this be the one last Aoki related post. hahaha! well, found out he was holding a Steve Aoki's logo design contest. and here are my entriesssss....
results in by Feb 15. *finger cross*
i created these logos in 2 stages. the above 2 are my instant execution of how the logo represent Steve Aoki. again, i kept back to my minimal, neat approach. though i like the symbolism of the logo, i got feedback saying it doesnt really speak Steve Aoki. back to more research and study.
second stage. read about Steve Aoki online, and listen to his music–the above logo is the final result. i still feel i'm missing something...but it's submited. ahah!
from this logo design stages, i realize my own strength and weakness in design. i need to learn how to be more 'raw' and 'random'. it's truly hard to switch design style. i admire collage art/craft work, but i can't really execute it. too many minimal approach. GOTTA ROUGH UP MY STYLE YO!
anyway, prizes to the contest are a bunch of Steve Aoki's stuffs (his fashion and record line, Dim Mak), and the most exciting part (probably the only reason i participate) for me–logo be use in all his poster WORLDWIDE! :D
i like the first one with the lock design. clean and neat... but i kno wat u mean by: it's not him. saw his writing on ur cds and i think the one with the diamond is more him, eps. the purple name w/ the yellow background. hope u win! best of luck!
<><
sorry to be an ignoramus (which I so often am on here) but I don't know who Steve Aoki is.
Te be honest the tallest mountain in NZ's maori name (pronounced in the local tribes dialect) is Aoraki and that's what I think of when I read your blog. Good luck, I think the fact that you can examine your weaknesses and know where you need improvement is a good thing. =)
good luck
THANKS EVERYONE!!!!
so nice to get all your support!
butter - yea, i'm trying to make him using just font/type/letter. :) YOU HAVE GREAT EYES! :D
peachey - 'bling'! :) *thanks*
yenc - design is so subjective!!! *wink*
Dreamy - :)
Wendy - totally get what you are feeling. i need to just random sketch more and be more confident with my hand on pencil instead of keyboard and monitor! :)
Good Luck!
It looks great. I personaly likes the 1st approach. Dunno much about aiko. All i know is from ya blog. Appearance wise, i saw him in 1st approach. Saw his style in 2nd. Still i prefer 1st.
These are very nice, Yulien! I think I really like these and the ferris wheel from before the most out of what I've seen. I totally agree with the rough and random. I don't like things that are too polished, mechanical, or commercial. These feel more "real," ya know?
