so besides this cough that's been bothering me... something else is on my mind and I'm not sure what to do or how to put into words... some of you may recall that the experience with my client wasn't so great... and actually I'm not working for him anymore (after I was done with the website, I told him, I'm done...) but the bad thing is... he hasn't paid me in full yet... he made one payment last month (Sept. 13th), and I was done with his website on August 29th... so it took him about 2 weeks to make a first payment... then finally a couple days ago, he said he just did a bill pay online and sent me another payment... (I haven't received it yet...) but hopefully soon... then he still owes me about half of what the total is... which is quite a bit of money...

but anyway... I still have his portfolio with me and he is requesting that I return it to him... but I feel like I shouldn't return it to him until he has paid me what I earned... what do you think? If you also think I should hold on to the portfolio until I'm paid, how should I reply to him in the email so I don't sound like a b*tch?

    *argh*

payments online...see this is where I get very iffy on this situation...Payments online should be really fast in receivement. But yet you haven't received any. Do not return until you're fully paid.

This is why accountants hate being the accounts receviables department. haha they always have to call and bill people with nasty attitudes.

Keep your patience with him. The more nasty a person can get the more you wont receive any money. therefore do keep the portfolio.

Do follow up on the "why" you haven't received any payments online.

Lessons learned, next time you should have all the payment schedule figured out at the beginning of the project, and make sure that he follows the payment schedule otherwise do NOT deliver your work.  For example, if u agreed that 50% payment should be received at the milestone of 70% work done, make sure he pays you 50% at the time before u finish the remaining 30% of work.

Yeah keep the portfolio until he pays in full, otherwise you may never see the money. Make sure he understands where you stand and be firm but polite.
    Good Luck Jane.

You certainly should hold onto his portfolio until payments are received in full.

Keep billing him and include a note each time that all his property will be duly returned upon final payment or when all charges for your design services has been paid and received by your financial institution. What more can he expect? what a doofus.

I think you can be polite but firm and let him know that you will return the portfolio once payment for the project has been paid in full...
