Couple weeks ago, my grandma, my mom, and I were out grocery shopping... and I bumped into my high school music teacher... I spotted him and turned the other way, thinking, should I say Hi or no? but I decided to go up to him and say hi... I didn't like him as a teacher before and a group of us made up nicknames for him, I had to be cautious not to blurt out any of them while talking to him.

Because it's been awhile since I graduated or had him as a teacher, he couldn't remember quite clearly who I was; but he remembered that I played the flute... well, I wasn't a superb student so I knew he wouldn't remember me; and mainly because I quit after the first year. We compared him to our previous music teacher at middle school who was a far better teacher... I quit after 4 years playing the flute...

anyway, after we talked for a short few minutes, it felt very awkward. I realized that there isn't much to talk about with a teacher. I guess it's because we always look up to them as teachers and not necessarily friends. So it's not like you can go up to them and be like, "Hey, what's up? what have you been up to?"  it's a very odd conversation / feeling...

and to add to it, I totally forgot how long it's been since high school and when he asked what I studied after high school, I was kinda confused because in my mind, I just assume that everyone knew what I ended up studying... don't know why... some weird thinking in my mind, I guess... HAHAA!!!~

Here are two band photos from middle school. (with the better teacher  We were in a competition and I think we got "Superior" markings. the last year in middle school was the best year ever. Because of the band class and our field trip performances, we got dismissed from other classes. HAHAA!!!~ But it was soooooooooo much fun being in the band... it was awesome... I loved it...

    Can you spot me out?

Probably a little hard cause it's so small... so I put tags in... HAHA!!!~ and just to point out, the bald guy is the band teacher. HAHA!!!~

    This is the goofy picture...

I LOVE the goofy pic!  What a great idea!!!!

I think it's best that you approached your teacher and talked to him.  That way, you don't have any regrets.  I say this because I saw a former band student myself a few years ago (and it had been a few years since graduation).  He was three years ahead of me and I didn't think he'd remember me.  So, I thought that next time I saw him I'd say, "Hi."  Unfortunately, he was killed in a drunk-driving related accident a couple of days after I saw him and I really regret not being braver and just saying, "Hi."

I know what it's like to try and avoid calling a teacher by the not so flattering nickname. I feel the same as you that it's not easy talking to past teachers.
    Thanks for sharing Jane :)

I haven't really seen any of my past teachers. The one time I spotted one, I didn't say anything because I assumed he wouldn't remember me... ;P

I kinda regret not learning any instruments in school...

I don't know why tv shows and movies always made fun of the people that were in band. Obviously, they had no idea how much fun it is being in band. I was in pageantry so I traveled a lot with band to competitions and such. I know that most of my most memorable high school moments happened while I was in pageantry.

I don't usually find it uncomfortable talking to past teachers but then the teacher that I didn't like from school that I spoke to (I have spoken to teachers that I liked since) was on top of a mountain and he shared his whiskey.  weird but kinda cool

haha the second picture is adorable!  I loved middle school choir too - it was so much fun.  I actually found out that my middle school choir director was an alumni from my university after I enrolled!

I rarely say hi to old teachers..they never remember me hehe
