Mr. Bao3, who possesses a mastery of chemistry, made me think about what high school subjects in which I could say I possessed some proficiency. Of the sciences, chemistry and physics definitely caused me some grief in terms of labs, tests and final grades earned. In college, it was finance and accounting that grieved me. As much as I want to fault my inability to understand the course concepts with my nearly-senile instructors, I don't think I ever got it.

Back to high school. High school biology was great. There was one biology instructor and he was a tall, relatively handsome man. He ran a few daycare facilities, or rather, they were under his name. He had a dry sense of humor and he didn't mind poking fun at himself. The students all took to him and respected him.

There was this one particular morning in class where the students got on his nerves. The kids were talking while he was lecturing and generally not paying attention. He got fed up and reprimanded us and he used this term, at the time, I'd never heard. In his rant, he called us "vegetables" for, I guess, our lack of participation or interest or semblance of life that day. Not all of us were misbehaving, mind you *halo over my head*.

I think I was feeling especially light-hearted and frisky that day but that word "vegetable" got me started on the giggles. My table-mates (we sat 4 to a table) were looking at me like I had gone loco. My BFF sat at the edge of the table to my left and she also caught the giggles. Either Mr. Drake was so engrossed in expressing himself during his rant that he didn't notice these two girls suppressing their giggles or he ignored us (because we were the better students. Hey, we're Chinese).

Dissecting frogs in biology was a blast. I couldn't tell if it was the frog that smelled so badly (which it did) or my lab partner who had a certain something kind of odor. Fred T. was his name. He probably thought I was the one who reeked. haha.

Was there a time when you laughed at an inopportune time?

My husband and I tend to get our haircuts together and he always has a way of making me laugh when I'm getting my hair cut.  I always want to kill him because I'm afraid I'll turn my head and my hair will get messed up.  Our hairdresser probably thinks we're nuts.

I was in a work meeting last week (with reps from the Cruise industry and Nelson tourism providers) and apparently there is a lack of quality tour guide commentators on coach tours in NZ, you get comments like,' this is where someone was stabbed' (eek) or 'this is where the rich people live', it was this last comment that gave me the giggles in a serious meeting.

What sticks in my mind is the time I blurted out a sarcastic remark to my chemistry teacher. She was describing our science project and when she mentioned the prizes (can't remember what they were, but they were pretty lame), I said something to the effect of, "Ooo ... whoopee." I ended up having to stay after class for that. =P

Yeah I had problems with physics in hs and still do at uni, its just un-logical but apparently its the most logical science (which is kinda ironic, dun u fink?) Chem and Biology, was a blast! Frogs, I think we had to disect a sheeps brain, and a rat that was apparently been in the freezer for 5 years *eww*

At least your bio teacher didn't you call you an animal. I had this sri-lankan teacher for maths and she use to say ' you stupid bunch of animals. if you don't want to learn in my class get out' so imagine her saying with the Apu from the simpson accent lol, it was kinda funny. But she was a mad teacher.

Its happened so many times, that I don't even remember it these days.

    the good ol' times. =)

hmmm. i remember back in jr high school, it was remembrance day (remembering our fallen soldiers and past wars). at 11am, we all had to pay tribute in silence. over the PA system, trumpets were blasting and we all had to stand up. midway through the high pitched trumpet tune, the classmate across from me FARTS, ripping a LOUD one!!! everyone in the vicinity (including me) starts giggling like crazy... but then the teacher looked over and 'shhhhh'ed us, probably thinking we were being disrespectful...!

Dude...I have a hard time suppressing my laughter. Today a coworker described the fruits in the kitchen as "luscious" and I caught the giggles and couldn't stop.

I remember I was in a group of 4 in biology class too. It was me (the colorguard girl), a volley ball player, a soccer player, and a football player. Most would think it would be the guys standing up to get their hands dirty and do the dissecting, but no, it was actually me. I did it all by myself, the starfish, earth worm, frog, and this other animal I already forgot. This was my sophomore year. I wouldn't let either the soccer or football player live it down for the next two years. They were also in my chemistry and Bio 3-4 classes too. LOL.

Not out loud. I thought it might be a bit rude, and I get embarrassed easily so I didn't want anyone to look at me, so I just laughed on the inside with a huge grin on my face. It was during Calculus (which I totally sucked at) and during one area, our (Russian) teacher used to say "round the outside" all the time. Guess why I found it funny (although, no one else did).

My sister told me she used to laugh in Chemistry when her teacher used to say "not many, if any", which was quite a bit, and have all her - very diligent, or should I say geeky - classmates stare at her, but I'm pretty sure only Jaine would know why.

me and my college classmates made a video presentation for one of our class. one of NG shot had us laughing cuz the rest of the team heard the girl on camera saying "retarded" when she was actually saying "retired". so when the actual scene with the correct pronunciation was shown to the class, i couldnt hold back my laughter that even the other classmates (who had no idea why it's so funny) turned their heads toward me (while i had my head down on the table and my shoulders going up and down, stifling my laughters).

Yeah and I feel really terrible about it, but I was at my father's funeral, it sounds nasty but I remembered that he had asked for  'A Bat out of Hell' to be played as his final song for a laugh, and I started to envision all this poor souls attending and the reverend's face if they heard it. Of course only I knew what I was thinking, and it did not go down well, but at least I was smiling which he wanted.

My late husband & I were at a wedding, and the photographer was coming from table to table taking photos. When he get to our table someone put their napkin down too close to the lit candles on the centerpiece & it started to smolder. What really got to me was the overreaction of one of the guys at the table.

He yelled 'Fire!' and threw an entire glass of water on the centerpiece & the smoldering napkin just as the photographer took the photo. So there was a picture of a smoldering, drenched centerpiece & my husband & I falling all over ourselves. The photographer took another photo but hubby & I had to leave the table to go fall on a couch outside the reception room till we recovered our composure.

Btw if Fred T. smelled like frog fermented in formaldehyde he must have had a helluva time getting a date for the Prom, not to mention a job as life went on. Eeew.

This past weekend, maybe.  We took my mom to a local historic site's annual festival where they had a beer tent.  We sat down and I sensed that the folding chair I was sitting in was sagging, and I said, no way, I'm not falling on my butt here.  So I chose another cheapy chair and we had a couple of beers and hot dogs.  I was feeling pretty happy.

I hear a big crash and look at the next table.  A guy, maybe 40ish, who obviously shopped in the husky department, was sitting/lying on the ground, the splattered chair beneath him.  I started to laugh, and stifled myself, waiting for some of his friends to go to his aid.  Several second passed and no one did.  Then I burst out laughing and walked over to him to help him up.  With a big smile and telling him the story I just told you, I helped him to his feet, and thanked him for being the first person to prove these chairs inadequate.  He and I grasped hands, and actually, my laughing probably helped him over the embarrassment.  When we were leaving, I walked over and handed him the plastic fest container  that came with our pitcher, and thanked him for the laugh of the day.  He said "No, thank you young lady" and then we had another laugh.  That could have turned out badly, but I still wouldn't have been able to  help it.

Actually, your cracking up was contagious for me here b/c I can picture how  weird it is to hear a teacher suddenly call you... vegetables. like, it's weird to get really mad and then call someone a vegetable. anyway, once I had to do a presentation in french class of a french folk tale, and my friend lisa and i had recorded a tape of really really weird voices to play along with the illustrations i'd made on poster board. as i played it for the class i was cracking up and trying to hold it in for a good 10 minutes or so.  i kept my face behind the poster boards.

Definitely...there's this time in high school music class, and I sat in front of some boys who were talking to the girl next to them. One of them commented on how they could provide the girl with all her needs and thought how pretty she is. I busted out laughing and the teacher ended up asking me what I was laughing at because what he'd said was not a joke. I ended telling him that I had recalled a joke my friend had told me before class and just got it now....the boys later asked what I thought was so funny - straight up told them that they're freshmens, in high school, no job, no money - so don't try to tell the poor girl that you can provide everything for her. Rude much...but those group of people never sat next to me again for the rest of the class term. Fine by me.

In my high school English class, a student was reading outloud our book. When he or she got to one line that had the word "saltwater taffy-wise" as an example of the suffix "-wise", I thought that was one of the funniest things I've heard in a while, so I started giggling uncontrollably. My friend also sitting at the same table started giggling too. Meanwhile, the student was still reading. My friend and I tried to stop, but every time we made eye contact, we busted up giggling again. Finally, the teacher turned to us and said "Are you both ok?" Luckily the teacher knew us pretty well and probably thought it was amusing that we both had a giggling fit rather than get annoyed at us.

Sometimes you just can't stop laughing... hehe

out of the many times I laughed inappropriately in my classes, especially during HS, one of the most unforgettable incident was in our history & culture class.
the class was sooooo noisy (I don't know what got into us, considering we were in the 1st section), we didn't even noticed that our teacher was trying to keep his silence the whole time trying not to lose his patience, then suddenly he burst out, &  yelled "bullshit!" loudly, that I think the whole building trembled. OMG! I can't forget the look on his face & how the class got so surprise. I tried my very best not to laugh, & when he walked out of the room everyone started laughing. Lol.
