  • Define a man

I thought this to be something interesting. As a recent friend brought this to my attention and I did think it strange, and here it is again being brought up during my sociology class.

How do you define a man? What things does he say, or do, etc ??? I'm not just referring to the normal bread winner of the family thing there. I mean today is totally different as women can be the bread winners as well.

My definition of a man, well I'm not sure. I'm still like a kiddie inside, so I'm sure I just like little boys..ha no no pedaphilia type of inclinations here.

Attraction does play a big part in defining ones own man. Now I've only had 1 boyfriend in my entire life. He's beyond man and kiddie. He's neither!  But yet, he's married?? eh? That makes no sence to me..lol

So the only guy I can say who is a man is my father. I really can't say whether or not he's grown to be a man, because he can be childish as well like me.

I'd just like to think that each person is still a child in some way/manner. It's were all our happiness comes from. It's the inner child that lashes out to be happy and find what we all want and need as we continue to grow. We still laugh at childish acts and such. It's just because it's those good times we wish we still had. But to remain a child and not an adult might make society think you're not sane to be here and be locked up instead...lol so by all means, we conduct ourselves to be adults and sometimes release that inner kiddie when only appropriate. Kind of sounds like deprivization(is that a word?).  Eh, but that's just how society has made it. Just social conduct.

So does that make us half an adult and half a child no matter at what age we're in? hmmm..

Edit: Sorry probably should have said this earilier or kept this in mind. I'm not trying to get to sterotypes of any gender. In fact once you look at what gender really is, it's just a body part. Actually in terms, gender is the social conduct to which body part you have. Sex is your physiology.

eh..maybe I'm getting my self in trouble with this topic...ah well.

    Edit: Sorry I found some spelling/typo errors...hehe

Responsibility and a hunger for fun and knowing when to use each one. It's that simple.

Personally I'd like to see a man defined by his character, values and how he treats others.

I agree with Peachey and throwing in some interest in sports there. All I know is that my man better be interested in some type of sport, preferably basketball or football. I hate to have to sit through baseball. That's my definition of a MAN. Ooh...some nice arms couldn't hurt either. Am I getting off topic here? Sorry.

yes, I think we all have the kid inside of us somewhere and it is to be cherished, we can still be adult too and responsible when necessary.

define a man, I guess its a personal thing and I'm a little reticent to do it because if it were 'define a woman', I would not like all the 'stereotypical'  things like maternal, soft, nurturing etc, while there is nothing wrong with those qualities and I like them, they can be used to limit women who are competitive and don't want kids etc etc...

I think it's your own perception if you think of yourself as an adult. Sure we do "adult" things like paying bills but we can still have fun like a kid. I'm sure we all have that "child" within us. :)

Being a man is owning up to responsibility, acting like an adult, being serious about finances (holds down a job), and knowing when to be a kid.

I agree with what you said about having the child within us... most definitely... we've all been through that stage... there's something so innocent about being a child... I think life is a mixture of seriousness and sillyness... and usually we can pick out when to be serious and when to be silly... (well, sometimes...)

seriousness is for the reality part of life (work, bills, issues, etc...) the sillyness is for the fun part of life (family, friends, movies, etc..) it has to be a mixture otherwise life will be kinda dull... when things get too serious, we just gotta release the child from within and laugh our hearts out... =D
