Fraud at the dinning table

My class was talking about fraud today after watching the movie "Catch Me If You Can" Starring Tom Hanks and Leo DiCaprio. Awesome movie really.

The instructor went around the class to ask students what exactly did they find interesting about the movie, the ask around stopped right about to me. But my friend brought up a good discussion topic. Fraud at restaurant tables.

He's done it of course. I mean who wouldn't think about doing it once if they were stalk raving hungry for food!

Say: The Consierge announces "Table for Jim is Ready!" Not once, not twice, but 3 times. So you're thinking, okay, the person is gone and you're extremely starving. So you decide okay, I'm going to be "Jim" for the evening at this restaurant. Go in and act as Jim, and pay under the alias as Jim! You get your fulfilment of food in your tummy along with your friends. You're the hero for the evening! YEAH!!!!

It's still fraud. You stole someone elses Identity! You cut in line of others while you're # 190 and Jim was # 110. Not fair huh? Wish I could do that at the DMV, but then that's why you can make appts and know when to get there.

Who hasn't theater hopped? Really??? Me, nope..not ever. Don't have that time or money. I'd rather watch movies at home where people don't consistently kick the back of your seat or having kissing noises or cell phones going off or that annoying cell phone light on...lol

But it's still fraud. You're cheating! You're playing the cheating game and just try to catch me if you can game with the manager and the ushers.

I am an accountant, this is what Forensic accountant students do. They learn ways of how fraud can be taken place. Well not specifically like this, but you get the point with the movie theater. You're not paying for those extra 2 movies you've watched with your friends.

Same with fake dvds, downloading movies online without paying for them, same with music, same with plagerism. Yet we all sorta encourage it because if you can get away with it, "Yeppie more money for me and none for you, HA!!!" Ya, we all sorta find our bargains in life, but a free lunch just isn't free exactly. Someone else is paying for it, even though it's not you. You're basically ripping someone off. Whether it be big corporations, artists, government, you're still ripping someone off.

You know the Percentile for people stealing work supplies is?? "79% of employees steal from their employers at an annual loss of more than $120 billion."  Yes, most people have done it without noticing at all what they did. Taking a pen or pencile home for use. Or even paper clips, tacs, staples, ink cartridges even.... Well it's there and no one else is gonna use it! So what, you didn't pay for it.  I saw on an episode of "Dead Like Me", someone stole a whole bunch of Post It Notes and put it all into her closet, chalk full of them. No idea what she'd use them for. 68% of people who were fired for stealing, did not disclose the reason why they were fired to the next employer. "92% lied on their job applications about whether or not they've stolen from a previous employer." "More then 25% of people lie on their credentials, either false info or phony stuff." At least 87% of the theives have admitted to stealing, including getting paid for hours not worked.

Puts a real big twist on looking for the right person to hire next huh???
