Media and masculinity/feminity

Behold!

Society and mostly media plants ideas on how we should view what real men are! lmao...haha that was corny..sorry about that.

But really, it does. Since we were born, our environment, people, parents, kids, have this huge influence on what is viewed to be right. Otherwise you'd be somewhat like an outcast to society, because you broke the norm. Shame on you type of thing.

Males are boxed into a closet per say, knowing the whole idea of being a "real" man, you need to be masculine. It's what makes up alot of their ideals while growing up. Otherwise, they'd be named: emotional, whimp, fag, gay, sissy, etc...and the list goes on.

Asked around on what boys think the characteristics of men are, these for the 4 main ones. Masculine, respect, strong, and independent.

Now, this doesn't apply to every guy out there, this I know for sure. There are exceptions.

Now this misconception makes men think in order to gain respect, violence is something that makes a man masculine in a way or even strong. But really, it's just silly. They need to be mean in order to prove a point. What point is that really? I have no idea.

Sex is only a biological state. It doesn't come with these characteristics in which society demands and has made up during the centuries that have passed. Men are only human beings that can think and walk and talk and etc. Except they've got balls and a toy...haha I just don't feel like saying that word..haha

Society demands these characteristics from men, now why is that?

Women are not weak, they are smart and they are just as men are. They can even beat men too. Now, why are women always looked down upon, as a miniority when it comes to Sex/Gender?

And they come up with this word "Feminim" which does not sound strong, but passive and like a flower which is delicate vs. "masculinity" for men.

Have you noticed that along the lines of the media, first there were little gun pistols shown, then when we get to James Bond era, we get a bigger pistol. Then when we get to Clint Eastwood, we get a even bigger one. Then down the lines all the way to Rambo! Ak-47s...something like that. The bigger it gets, along with their bi-ceps.

Now I'm a bi-cep girl. I'm not complaining. But if you compare the old toy figurines, the arms are really small and portional to real humans, along the lines, you'd get bigger and bigger and bigger, say up to 26 inches....now even a baseball player Mcguire, his arm is only 20 inches. (all around) They're too big and not proportional and advertising what it is to be a real man.  But that is not a real man.

Lets get to barbies. The chest is a big issue. If someone was to actually be like barbie, that women would be hovering down because her chest would be too heavy on her back to sit up right or even walk up right. It's not what a real women looks like. It's said that they have made the chest to be less as big. But they still seem big to me. I don't see a difference at all.

We view perfectionism when we see movies or associate some kind of sex appeal with the media. It plants a certain idea into our minds and makes us go with what seems to be the norm. I must be this, I must wear this, I must look like her/him!

But I'm glad there has been a huge change in the media. Hence more scientist shows/movies are being shown where the "geeks" are shown to be the heros. Hence "Num3ers", or CSI. Then now we see women are stepping up to the plate like Maggie Q in Misson Impossible and Die Hard.

The media shows alot of violence. Especially shows like Cops, is that necessary to watch? I don't think anyone that I know watches it personally. It's too violent for me. Martial arts with Donnie Yen, Jet Li, Collin Chou, Yuen Biao (spelling) Samo, ZZW, etc are being emphased as manly acts/heros. Is that right? Do we really need more masculinity in our lives in that form? I think it's been emphasized a bit too much don't you think? The ways to kill a man, like with one hand and only the use of one hand. Crack...the neck pops and the guy dies. ....I think not. I know it's a bit impossible to do that unless it's pure luck or the person really knows how to do that. But it does somewhat plant an idea into ones mind.

You see how kids would watch Power Rangers, and there was a problem with it of course. Kids would watch and go "COOL!" Then when they go out and play, they'd be acting like power rangers and hitting kids. Some were badly injuried too sad to say. So now that strikes up a question, why was the leader always a guy?????????

Glad, Voyeager (Like Star Trek) was lead by a woman. I liked that series. Stargate Atlantis is also lead by a woman. First, Dr. Weir now Samantha Carter from the original Stargate. But we don't see alot of women in reality being in the top executive level ever. Like 1 women in the executive board or 2, but most of the board consist of men. Have you ever heard of a president being a women? I mean in the fortune 500 companies, I haven't yet.

We women still barely have no economic power. And we still get unequal pay for the same jobs at the same level of education. 1 reason for this was because this was deemed to be extra pay or an extra allowance for the women, because their husband would be paid enough to support the whole family, not just the man. Because he is the sole bread winner. But now, it's different of course. But still the pay, is it still following the same rules? hmmm...Don't know.

What bothers me is that we look at men and we don't expect them to be emotional. They are human beings, we need to expect them to be emotional. You know how bad it is to be all boxed up and not talk about something that really bothers them. We've all been through that sometime. We literally explode with pain, just about. Maybe that is why they have a "violent" outlet. I'm not talking about smashing and bashing type of violence. I'm talking about being mean and rude and taking out their frustrations on other people. Some of it does lead to physical violence sad to say. But then, this is where a punching bag comes in handy. The ones in a gym I mean, not a human punching bag. If only some people would see the gym to be a good thing. Instead it's correlated with overly fat people trying to get the unachievable. Which isn't true. But then my logic in this may be a bit well...blurred. On this portion that is.

I don't know if you guys find this interesting or anything. But I do. I saw a part of a movie/documentary called "Tough Guise". Hits on alot of these topics. Very informational, could be a little old, but still within our century.
