I got home yesterday and went directly to the message machine seeing there are 6 messages. My dad is hard at hearing english messages no matter how non accent it is, he can't hear it clearly. So it's my job to check them to tell him what they mean.

So I play the messages and I hear one that sounds like a laywer, they haven't been able to contact  my sister, so they contacted my dad to pass on the message to her that her case is in his hands and they are in important need for her to go over some options or what not. Sounds like okay, one of my sisters social work cases. Now I go to my dad and ask him if he's called my sis, nope. Can't hear a darn thing. But he heard the chinese message on there loud and clear from my uncle..lol....

So I call my sister and leave a message on her machine notifying her about the message. Today, I (im) message her and ask her about it.

Guess what, it's a new way to get your attention for advertisment.

They've sunk that low with telemarketing??? Shame on them...my gosh...I don't think people will ever know if the person calling is actually going to say something important anymore.

My next guess is, "pick up the phone! Your sister is dying in the hospital!"

Lousy.....dude...so wrong.. and I thought my sister was being sued the first time I heard the message. "it's of an important legal matter." wtf...advertising... crazy folks...

Any of you guys get anything like this or something close? Story share time ppl!

Since when do tele-marketers leave messages? Maybe it's a good thing that we don't keep an answering machine. We figure if it's someone that's important than they can call us on our cell phones.

    omg - that is terrible
    absolutely terrible
what if they did that to someone, whose relative had just died.  What happened to ethics.

Whenever I hear a pause when I answer the phone, I assume it's a telemarketer and just hang up immediately.  Amazingly I haven't hung up on anyone I actually know yet.  You should sign up with the Do Not Call Registry - https://www.donotcall.gov/

We get the Indian telemarketers and it drives us crazy, because (no offence), they're rather difficult to understand... =/ We tend to pretend we don't understand English, and hang up...

    whoa... that is crazy... *sigh*

whenever I take the messages... they'd always say, this is very very important and if we don't hear back from them we may take further action... and guess what? they leave an 800 number which sends you to the operator... oh yea, really important, huh? *argh*

All of a sudden, I've been getting tons of telemarketing calls in Chinese. That, on top of English ones. So annoying. I should be like my mother-in-law and say "I don't know" and hang up! haha.
