Been one of those typical Saturdays. A little computer, a little cleaning around the house and then
out to lunch.
At lunch in a Chinese "cafe," Mr. P asks the waitress if the yow tiu
(Chinese donuts) are fresh? She says yes, they're fresh. Mr. P asks if
they were freshly made in their kitchen and the waitress says she
didn't know.
I didn't think much of her reply at first. But later on as we were
partaking our meal, I was saying how unusual for the waitress not to
know if their donuts were made in-house or not. Mr. P informed me that
she said "I don't know" because the answer was no, that the donuts were
purchased elsewhere. I thought it would seem a bit more...um, I don't know.....honest, perhaps?... for the waitress to be forthright by telling us they were
indeed not homemade.
Was she intending to be ambiguous in hopes we'd place an order? WTF? I know food servers work to earn their tips but her attitude or belief in misleading customers was not appreciated. Wouldn't it be wiser to have the customers be informed so their decisions wouldn't leave them feeling like they'd been tricked into them? I can't stand this type of service/mentality. Like I don't mind giving out $2.00 for crappy yow tiu. I do mind, thank you very much!
Well, you intelligent types know that I'm talking about the principle, not a couple of bucks of bad yow tiu.
Later, I had a more humorous incident with a gallon of milk.
I was at the grocery store finding my dairy goods. I was
kneeling to reach the merchandise down at the bottom, checking their
due dates. Do you people do that? Try to find the "best if used by"
dates that are as late as possible? I frequently do that.
So, as I am thus occupied, a little girl behind me, who was waiting for
her parent, was messing around with a gallon of milk. She was doing something weird, like lifting it over her head or something I know not. The next
thing I hear is a splat and I feel some cold wetness on my back and into
my left shoe (I wore mules). Did I feel a little trickle down my butt
crack too? The girl had dropped the whole plastic jug of milk and some
splattered out from under the cap, which stayed intact, with the spout aiming directly at moi.
I had to smile awkwardly and not make a fuss as it really wasn't a big deal especially since I was going to head home afterwards. Just felt funny with my back a little wet with milk , my jeans absorbing the wetness to my panties, and my left foot sloshing around with milk inside. Nice, eh?
That's my food talk for this Saturday.
