I was excited to get this fun-sounding cake recipe from Flagday. The ingredients were things I already had, except for the prepared pie crusts, which is the main inducement for me to do a little baking.

I modified the recipe to use less sugar. Two whole cups just in the cake mix seemed excessive as I'm one of those who try to avoid high-glycemic foods and don't need food to be super-sweet.

I'm not sure I baked it right because they don't look exactly pretty - the cocoa syrup didn't quite sink down but luckily for me, my messy preparation has the cocoa pretty much everywhere. I'll be sure to swirl the cocoa the next time I bake funny cakes.

Peachey's funny cake does taste pretty good.

a cake with a pie crust??? I've never actually seen on before...

But if you want the marble effect you have to pour in the chocolate cross sectionally, then get a long tooth pick or something and swirl that in around. Or I think I'm missing a step..lol

Genius...they look like marble cake from the top. I can only make fairy cakes. Made some few wks ago with Chloe using the 'all in a box' cartoon character ones...fun & tasty!

It might be a little funny, but I bet it tasted delish. Your photos of food are incredible. You could do photos for magazine spreads or something. Have you cooked professionally or is it just something you love to do?

the cakes look quite similar to the ones that my mom used to baked during Chinese New Year. Though it looks so so but actually quite yummy.

Pretty decent for home-made cake. Kinda looks like a crusty marble topped cake or really crusty cheese cake with a swirl of chocolate on top.

It's a homemade cake...it's not suppose to look pretty. That one slice you took a picture is making my mouth water. Glad to hear that your cake taste good though. I tried to bake calzones this morning and burned them. I was so sad.

I love to bake, I'm going to have to try something similar, I've never heard of a pie-cake before, and it looks and sounds delicious.

Those cakes look delicious.... the idea of a pie crust with cake is interesting. What kind of cake is it?
Come to think of it, I haven't baked in a long time.... heh heh...your post makes me wanna bake again. =P

I love that pie-cake. Yeah, Emma's has a lot more on the bottom so maybe do half under and half over. So simple, but with a cup of coffee perfect. And I never thought hers were supersweet....not as sweet as store bought funny cake....but of course 2 Cups over 3 pies is a lot of sugar!!!!

She makes her own crusts but not even store-bought would induce me to bake.
